Mini Best Catch Tri-Fold Card

Best Catch Tri-Fold Card

Hello Friends,

It's confession time.  I fully intended to make a video for you this week on how to make this Mini Best Catch Tri-Fold Card, but honestly my hands look horrible.  We've been busy remodeling and painting.  So....I will do my best to explain how to make this adorable Best Catch card with pictures and words.  If you really would like to see a video on any part of this card in the future, please let me know in the comments and I will circle back and make a video.

Best Catch Stampin' Up!

The original card looked like this.  Which was still very cute, but my imagination got the best of me and I simply had to add the hat on my fish!

Best Catch Tri-Fold Card Tutorial

How to Make a Mini Best Catch Tri-Fold Card

I started with a 9" x 3" Basic Black Card Base.  Then I scored it at 3" and 6".  Then I folded it Mountain Valley style as shown.

The handsome black and white checked paper was FREE with Sale-a-bration!  Believe it or not,  it's the Botanical Butterfly designer paper!  Have I mentioned before that I love the black and white side of this paper?  I cut a 2-3/4" square of designer paper and adhered it to the front panel.

Both my hat and my basket were stamped with Early Espresso ink.  I just used different Card Stocks for my base (Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede).  The cattails, the basket, the hats and the fish were all cut with Catch of the Day framelit Dies and my Big Shot.  All stamps are from the coordinating Best Catch stamp set.

I stamped the middle "You're the Best Catch Ever!" sentiment with Whisper White Craft Ink, so that it would show up on my Black card stock.  It takes on sort of a chalkboard look.

Now for the fish, he is handsome isn't he?  I stamped my fish using Jet Black Stazon Ink on Shimmery White Card Stock, because fish are sorta glimmery and shimmery.  I quickly watercolored a small spot of Powder Pink on his belly and a small patch of Poppy Parade across his back.  Then, I finished watercoloring with Old Olive.  Hint:  Paint outside the lines.  Mr. fish looks better if he doesn't has white edge line once he is cut out.

To give Mr. Fish a slippery, shimmery look I painted over him one last time with my Wink of Stella brush.

One final tip, I don't recommend using dimensionals if you plan to tuck your card in a Mini Envelope.  Because it's a Tri-Fold Card, it already has extra thickness.

Hey Love I'm Ape Over You

Hey Love Stampin' Up!

Hello Friends,

Joe's Birthday is just days away.  Plus Valentine's Day is next week, so I have all kinds of reasons to make him a card.  Not to mention, I think the Hey Love stamp set with all its fun lovable critters is just adorable.  The ape made me think jungles, so out came my Tropical Chic stamp set and Tropical framelits dies.  The Tropical Chic stamps and dies are just so versatile.  They can stand alone on a project or be combined with another stamp set as I did today.  I've also combined Tropical Chic with Fabulous Flamingo and Animal Outing on more than one occasion for fabulous cards.

Hey Love Tropical Chic Stampin' Up!

Isn't he just so handsome tucked in tropical foliage and flowers?

Stamping Technique

Two-Toned Stamped Flower Technique

This is a really simple stamping technique that produces fabulous results.

First, I inked the center of my flower with Calypso Coral ink using my sponge dauber.  Then, using another sponge dauber, I inked around the center with Berry Burst ink.  This is all done directly on the rubber.  The final step is to simply stamp!  To see this technique in action, click the Animal Outing link above.

More Forever Lovely Card Making Tips

After stamping the spray of flowers.  I stamped a trio of bitty hearts above my tag with Flirty Flamingo ink.

I cut my tag with Coastal Cabana Card Stock and my Stitched Rectangle Framelits Dies, then popped then up with Dimensionals.

There are 3 other little details that really bring those flowers to life.  First,  I colored the centers of two flowers with my Pineapple Punch Marker.  And then, I cut a few small Balmy Blue flowers with a die from my coordinating Lovely Flowers die set.  To finish off those Balmy Blue flowers, I added Pearl Basic Jewel centers.

The finishing touch was a Night of Navy bow made with medium Baker's Twine.

Did you notice the lovely color combination?

Stamparatus Stampin' Up!
