It's confession time. I fully intended to make a video for you this week on how to make this Mini Best Catch Tri-Fold Card, but honestly my hands look horrible. We've been busy remodeling and painting. So....I will do my best to explain how to make this adorable Best Catch card with pictures and words. If you really would like to see a video on any part of this card in the future, please let me know in the comments and I will circle back and make a video.
The original card looked like this. Which was still very cute, but my imagination got the best of me and I simply had to add the hat on my fish!
How to Make a Mini Best Catch Tri-Fold Card
I started with a 9" x 3" Basic Black Card Base. Then I scored it at 3" and 6". Then I folded it Mountain Valley style as shown.
The handsome black and white checked paper was FREE with Sale-a-bration! Believe it or not, it's the Botanical Butterfly designer paper! Have I mentioned before that I love the black and white side of this paper? I cut a 2-3/4" square of designer paper and adhered it to the front panel.
Both my hat and my basket were stamped with Early Espresso ink. I just used different Card Stocks for my base (Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede). The cattails, the basket, the hats and the fish were all cut with Catch of the Day framelit Dies and my Big Shot. All stamps are from the coordinating Best Catch stamp set.
I stamped the middle "You're the Best Catch Ever!" sentiment with Whisper White Craft Ink, so that it would show up on my Black card stock. It takes on sort of a chalkboard look.
Now for the fish, he is handsome isn't he? I stamped my fish using Jet Black Stazon Ink on Shimmery White Card Stock, because fish are sorta glimmery and shimmery. I quickly watercolored a small spot of Powder Pink on his belly and a small patch of Poppy Parade across his back. Then, I finished watercoloring with Old Olive. Hint: Paint outside the lines. Mr. fish looks better if he doesn't has white edge line once he is cut out.
To give Mr. Fish a slippery, shimmery look I painted over him one last time with my Wink of Stella brush.
One final tip, I don't recommend using dimensionals if you plan to tuck your card in a Mini Envelope. Because it's a Tri-Fold Card, it already has extra thickness.
